Bước cuối cùng trong quy trình cập nhật bảng tuần hoàn hóa học hoàn thành sau khi tên gọi của 4 nguyên tố mới được thông qua.
Hiệp hội quốc tế về hóa học cơ bản và ứng dụng (IUPAC) chính thức chấp nhận tên gọi của 4 nguyên tố mới được thêm vào chu kỳ thứ 7 trong bảng tuần hoàn hóa học, Science Alert hôm nay đưa tin.
IUPAC công bố 4 nguyên tố mới hồi đầu năm nay. Tại thời điểm đó, chúng được biết đến đơn giản là nguyên tố 113, 115, 117 và 118 với tên gọi cùng ký hiệu tạm thời lần lượt là ununtrium (Uut), ununpentium (Uup), ununseptium (Uus) và ununoctium (Uuo).
Các nhà nghiên cứu phát hiện ra nguyên tố mới tới từ Nga, Mỹ, Nhật được giao nhiệm vụ đặt tên cho chúng. Họ đệ trình đề xuất của mình hồi tháng 6/2016. Sau 5 tháng đánh giá, IUPAC hôm nay chính thức phê duyệt tên 4 nguyên tố mới.
“Theo thông lệ, các nguyên tố mới phát hiện được đặt tên theo địa danh, vùng địa lý hoặc nhà khoa học. Phần đuôi tên gọi thể hiện và duy trì tính nhất quán trong hóa học, tức là đuôi ‘-ium’ cho nguyên tố 113 và 115, cũng như tất cả nguyên tố mới của nhóm 1-16, đuôi ‘-ine’ cho nguyên tố 117, tương tự các nguyên tố khác trong nhóm 17, đuôi ‘-on’ cho nguyên tố 118 và các nguyên tố thuộc nhóm 18”, IUPAC giải thích.
Như vậy, tên gọi và ký hiệu chính thức của 4 nguyên tố mới đó là nguyên tố 113 Nihonium (Nh), nguyên tố 115 Moscovium (Mc), nguyên tố 117 Tennessine (Ts) và nguyên tố 118 Oganesson (Og).
Trong đó, Nihonium có nguồn gốc từ “Nihon”, cách gọi Nhật Bản trong tiếng Nhật. Moscovium được đặt theo tên thủ đô Moscow của Nga. Tennessine gợi nhắc đến bang Tennessee, nơi đi đầu trong lĩnh vực nghiên cứu hóa học. Oganesson nhằm vinh danh Yuri Oganessian, nhà vật lý 83 tuổi người Nga. Việc thông qua tên gọi của 4 nguyên tố là bước cuối cùng nhằm chính thức cập nhật bảng tuần hoàn hóa học mới.
