Sau buổi thuyết giảng tại Trường đại học Khoa học tự nhiên (Đại học Quốc gia TP.HCM) sáng 17-4, giáo sư đoạt giải Nobel hóa học năm 2022 Morten Peter Meldal dành cho phóng viên Tuổi Trẻ cuộc trò chuyện.
* Thưa giáo sư, những năm gần đây, học sinh giỏi ít chọn học đại học về các lĩnh vực khoa học tự nhiên như hóa học, vật lý… Ông suy nghĩ gì về điều này?
– Đúng vậy. Trong bài giảng, tôi đã cố gắng truyền đạt điều này. Hóa học là môn khoa học khó do chúng ta không thật sự nhìn thấy được các biến đổi hóa học bằng mắt thường. Thay vì yêu cầu học sinh cân bằng khối lượng, tính pH dung dịch… chúng ta hãy tạo điều kiện cho các bạn tiếp cận hóa học một cách trực quan sinh động hơn.
Hãy cho các bạn nhìn thấy các mô hình vân đạo phân tử, hình dạng các loại vân đạo khác nhau như thế nào, thấy được các vân đạo đó biến đổi ra sao, tương tác với nhau như thế nào để hình thành liên kết trong các phản ứng hóa học. Các bạn sẽ thật sự hình dung được hóa học.
Đừng liên tục hỏi các bạn có hiểu chưa mà hãy tạo điều kiện để các bạn được trải nghiệm thế giới hóa học một cách tự nhiên nhất từ khi còn nhỏ.
Như vậy, các bạn học sinh giỏi, có tư chất phù hợp với hóa học sẽ có niềm đam mê từ sớm và lựa chọn hóa học để học cao hơn trong tương lai.
* Giáo sư đề cập việc khuyến khích sự tò mò, tạo điều kiện để học sinh sớm tiếp cận với hóa học, giúp các bạn có được các khám phá quan trọng sau này. Theo ông, ai làm tốt nhất việc này?
– Theo tôi thì tất cả các nhà giáo dục, nhà nghiên cứu, gia đình và xã hội đều cần quan tâm đến điều này, đặc biệt là từ phía gia đình. Học tập không thể do ép buộc. Các bạn không thể thật sự học được do sợ mà việc học phải đến từ sự tò mò, từ sự yêu thích, phải là một niềm vui.
Khi lo sợ, các bạn có thể làm được bài kiểm tra, có thể đậu một kỳ thi nhưng các bạn không thật sự học được kiến thức. Đặc biệt đối với các bạn nhỏ, cần phải kết hợp vui chơi vào việc học, các bạn phải cảm thấy học rất vui, rất thú vị.
Ngay cả khi đã trở thành các nhà khoa học, nghiên cứu cũng không nên là trách nhiệm mà phải thật sự là niềm đam mê, là cách để các nhà nghiên cứu thỏa mãn được sự tò mò của mình.
* Ông có lời khuyên nào cho các bạn trẻ muốn theo con đường làm khoa học?
– Hãy làm những điều các bạn thích. Hãy làm theo mong muốn, suy nghĩ của mình, làm những việc các bạn cảm thấy tốt nhất cho tương lai của chúng ta. Thế giới của chúng ta đang gặp rất nhiều vấn đề về môi trường, chính trị, xã hội…
Hãy nghĩ đến các vấn đề của chúng ta, hãy tìm hiểu về môi trường, về thế giới hóa học xung quanh chúng ta. Các bạn có thể cân nhắc cho các học sinh đến với hóa học từ năm lớp 1.
* Ông nghĩ thế nào việc các trường đại học chạy đua công bố quốc tế?
– Đó là hệ quả của quá trình xin tài trợ ngày nay. Quá trình này chưa hợp lý. Nếu các bạn càng có nhiều công bố thì hồ sơ xin tài trợ của các bạn càng mạnh, nhưng chưa có sự quan tâm đúng mức đến chất lượng của các công bố khoa học.
Chất lượng của công bố khoa học nên được đánh giá bằng nhiều yếu tố như tạp chí có phản biện, số trích dẫn, số tác giả… Các công trình nghiên cứu quan trọng thường yêu cầu rất nhiều thời gian.
Nhóm nghiên cứu của tôi có một công trình sắp xuất bản từ kết quả nghiên cứu trong sáu năm qua. Nếu có giới hạn thời gian thì chúng tôi không thể đạt được kết quả như mong muốn.
Các nhà khoa học có thể làm một số công trình song song để có các công bố nhỏ trong các khoảng thời gian ngắn nhưng các vấn đề quan trọng thường cần được đầu tư thực hiện trong một thời gian dài.
* Các nhà khoa học Việt Nam nên tập trung vào khoa học cơ bản hay khoa học ứng dụng?
– Khoa học cơ bản và khoa học ứng dụng là hai lĩnh vực khác nhau và đều rất quan trọng. Các bạn cần quyết định rõ ràng ngay từ đầu bao nhiêu phần tài trợ sẽ dành riêng cho khoa học cơ bản, bao nhiêu sẽ dành riêng cho khoa học ứng dụng và đừng lấy tài trợ của lĩnh vực này để sử dụng cho lĩnh vực kia.
