GS.TSKH Trần Văn Sung lý giải các giếng sâu thường phát sinh khí độc, trong đó có khí metan, nếu gặp phải sẽ chết ngạt ngay trong vài phút.
Các nhà chức trách cho biết vụ việc hai người chết ngạt dưới giếng tại tỉnh Bình Phước hôm 15/8 được xác định nguyên nhân ban đầu do ngạt khí. Sự việc xảy ra khi anh Điểu Cường, 32 tuổi, thấy máy bơm nước ở nhà riêng tại xã Đa Kia, huyện Bù Gia Mập, bị hư nên dùng dây leo xuống giếng kiểm tra. Thấy hàng xóm không lên, cũng không nghe tiếng phản hồi, anh Trung theo sợi dây tụt xuống tìm rồi cũng chết ngạt theo.
Chia sẻ với VnExpress, GS.TSKH Trần Văn Sung, nguyên Viện trưởng Viện Hóa học, Viện Hàn lâm Khoa học và Công nghệ Việt Nam, cho biết trường hợp ngạt khí khi xuống giếng sâu xảy ra rất nhiều lần nhưng người dân chưa chú ý và không đề phòng. Ông cho biết khí metan (CH4), chiếm chỗ khí oxy và tích tụ dưới dưới đáy giếng khơi sâu là “thủ phạm” chính gây ra chết ngạt.
Khí metan (công thức hóa học là CH4, là loại khí nhẹ nhất trong dãy Ankan hóa học), thường đọng ở các đáy giếng sâu. Đây là loại khí xuất hiện nhiều trong hầm lò, thường gây nổ khi bắt lửa. Một số nơi khác như bãi rác thải, chất thải nông nghiệp cũng phát sinh khí này. Trường hợp giếng 30 m ở Bình Phước là rất sâu nên nồng độ khí metan xuất hiện nhiều. “Khi khí metan chiếm 75% thể tích trong không khí, sẽ khiến “chết ngạt ngay trong vài phút”, ông Sung nói. Ngoài metan còn có chất đồng đẳng là khí etan (C2H6) – dù ít hơn nhưng đều độc. Chúng sẽ đẩy oxy lên và chiếm chỗ, tích tụ lại. Một số loại khí khác cũng xuất hiện như CO, CO2 nhưng không nhiều.
Giếng càng sâu thì khí metan càng nhiều. Hiện nay Việt Nam chưa có nhiều thiết bị chuyên dụng trang bị để xuống giếng sâu. Tuy nhiên ông Sung cho biết, trước khi xuống người dân cần tìm cách đuổi hết khí metan ra ngoài, sau đó đeo mặt nạ lọc khí rồi mới xuống. “Tốt nhất nên bơm hút, thay đổi hỗn hợp không khí, ví dụ dùng quạt xua đuổi khí metan, làm không khí lưu thông”.
Giáo sư gợi ý người dân không nên xuống ngay dưới giếng, mà thử nghiệm trước bằng cách thả một con gà xuống trước. Nếu con vật chết ngạt dưới giếng tức là có không khí độc, người không nên xuống. Ông cũng cảnh báo trong trường hợp gặp phải hiện tượng có người chết ngạt khí thì người sau tuyệt đối không theo để cứu, mà nên tìm cách thả dây xuống đáy để trong trường hợp nạn nhân vẫn tỉnh để kéo lên.
Trường hợp ngạt khí từng xảy ra hồi cuối tháng 7/2022 hai người ở Yên Bái tử vong khi xuống nạo vét giếng. Hồi tháng 6/2020, hai bố con ở Thanh Hóa cũng chết ngạt dưới giếng bỏ hoang. Theo nhà chức trách, những chiếc giếng đào dân sinh lâu ngày không sử dụng, có nhiều lá cây hoặc tạp chất bên dưới qua thời gian sẽ sinh ra khí metan tích tụ. Nếu đường đột mở nắp và tiếp cận đáy giếng, người dân có thể trúng độc, tử vong trong vài phút.
